The Inn's History
In 1971, German immigrant and prominent member of Chicago's German community, Karl Laschet purchased a local tavern. His tavern, Laschet's Inn became the place to be for Chicago's German community. Featuring fantastic German beers and warm hospitality, Karl began Laschet's journey to become one of the oldest and best-known German establishments in Chicago.
In 1991 Franz and Ursula Kokott purchased Laschet's Inn from Karl and continued Karl's legacy of hospitality, as well as putting their own stamp on Laschet's. In 2000 Franz and Ursula opened a kitchen in Laschet's serving authentic and delicious German cuisine. Opening a kitchen brought in many new customers and grew the name Laschet's Inn to mean the best German bar and restaurant in Chicago. Ursula's recipes are still used in the kitchen today.
In 2007 Matt and Mannie Lodge became the third owners of Laschet's Inn. Like the owners before them, Matt and Mannie continued to provide the German community a place to call home. And, like those before them, Matt and Mannie put their own signature on Laschet's Inn by expanding the dining room and kitchen, as well as adding a sidewalk café for outdoor dining.
In October of 2019 long time employees Erin Batchelder and Scott Seisser became the fourth owners of Laschet's Inn. With over 20 years of experience working at Laschet's, Erin and Scott understand what makes Laschet's Inn special and will continue provide the fantastic German food, beer, and atmosphere our loyal customers have become accustomed to. And with time Erin and Scott will, like those before them, put their own stamp on Laschet's Inn to ensure its future for many years to come.
